Question: Fender Standard Strat help!.!?
Ok no offense to you starting out guitarists but sit this question out!. I need someone who actually knows what they are talking about!.

I am restoring a Fender Strat from 1995 I gotten for 30 bucks online!. Now you must think I am nuts or what is the catch but there is no catch it plays fine I just hate the paint job and want to fix it up with my air brush and put new parts on it to make it look better and new like it was back in 1995!. This is a christmas gift for a good friend who has been playing an acoustic guitar for the past 8 years and wants a strat badly!.

What is the best Airbrush paint to use to paint the fender Strat!? Any thing I should watch out for while painting with the resonance and Gloss!? How would you suggest I strip the paint off the guitar without using a sander!? What would you suggest with fixing and cleaning the neck which is Straight maple high gloss!?

And I am not completely dumb to this I just redid the electronics to the pick gard and use to be a guitar tec!. I also have been playing for the past 14 years also!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi

Get custom paint by Auto Air

Here is the link!.!.!.

Now, you do not want to use Krylon paint!. And as clear coating, Duplicolor Auto Spray lacquer!.

As for the finish, Fullerplast soaks into the wood and creates a seal that prevents following coats from soaking into the wood like a sponge!. This means spraying the color coats is easier and the coats can be applied thinner!.
That was Fender's secret to having nice finish!. They needed to find a product to fill all the pores in the wood!.

Having said this, you have to be careful!. The nitro color comes off the fender body within minutes with paint stripper leaving the guitar with a rock-hard plastic coating that can not be removed with any chemical means!. Sandpaper barely scratches this coating!. That is what you may be facing!.
You would need to heat the guitar to 300F so that the poly finish pops off hte body!. Then, you can repaint!.

As for the finish, UV allows a very thick and durable coating to be applied directly over bare wood without any need for pore filling!. UV cures the paint to its hardest state within minutes, not allowing the finish to soak into the wood!.

And , you can use UV over the paint as an added finish and giving a super high-gloss brillance!.

Hope this helps

As for the neck, make sure you tape it good when you are painting the body!. The fingerboard never damages itself really!.
Use a 600 sandpaper and apply matt or glossy clear such as the UV mentioned above!.
This way, you won't need anything else as this fills the pores!.
As for the frets, use steel wool to dress them up!. Period!. That will give them a high polish and remove the little kinks in the metal!. First, sand it with metal 600 paper, than finish with thee EXTRA-FINE STEEL WOOL!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
