Position:Home>Performing Arts> Which way do you think is better?Question: Which way do you think is better!? im in a band and i play bass for it and i also play guitar as well but i really want to make up interesting basslines, but all they want me to do is follow the root note of the guitar, thats just to simple and boring for me
most of our guitar rytham riffs normally has 4-5 chords, 6 chords maximum do you think it's better to follow the guitarWww@QuestionHome@Com Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Hey: Ive always wrote basslines to what the song requires, nothing more, nothing less!. Some have been very melodic and complex, while others have been similar to what you describe!. But, if ALL they want you to do is follow the root, sounds to me like your not going to grow very much as a bassist!. My current band has been together for almost 4 years now, and were a 3 piece!. ( I do double on keys though) Seems like with the material weve been writing lately, im able to write basslines around the lead vocal!. Of course, Ive always been a Rush fan, so that could explain part of that! As far as following the guitar!.!.!. guess it just depends on the music!. I could never be in an AC/DC cover band because of that fact!.!. ton of 8th notes centered around the root!. Dont get me wrong, their a great band!. But with whats required of the bass playing, thats just not my style!. Talk to your band mates!. If they dont want to budge, sounds like you wont be able to take your bass playing where you want it to go with these guys!. Might be time to find a new band! Hope this has helped!. Www@QuestionHome@Com tell the rest of your band that they play and make up music for their instrument and you dont tell them how to play it so they shouldnt tell you make up your owen music i was in a band and i learned that when people tell you wat to play it takes away from being in a band and if they dont listen give them a taste of their own medicine start telling them what to do and they will see that they dont like it Www@QuestionHome@Com Try following what the instructor wants you to follow!. he is the teacher and you are the student!. You will get into the better stuff as soon as you master the basics!.
