Question: What would be a good musical for an all girls school!?
For next years musical for my school, we need to come up with a fun and cool idea!.
It needs to be mainly female characters (we are going to get a few outside guys in - but only a few)!.
Any good ideas!?

I can't believe no one else has considered the obvious choice!. Annie!. It's a classic and the main characters are all female!. Annie, the orphan girls, Mrs!.Hannigan, Grace Farrell, Lily St!. Regis, The Boylan Sisters, The Star to Be, Pepper, Molly, Kate, Tessie, July, Duffy, The maids and servant ladies!. The show is full of female parts!. The message is also wonderful!. Finding a home and loving someone as your own no matter their background!.

Another favorite of mine is not as well known but a classic story!. Little Women the Musical!. I love the score and the plot is wonderful!. It really shows the power of women and how you can succeed when you dream!. The best part is that almost every character is a female!. Marmee, Jo , Meg , Aunt March, Amy , and Beth!. All wonderful rolls!. I can't begin to tell you how much I love the music and the characters just wonderful!.

Cinderella the musical by Rogers and Hammerstein might also be a possibility!. (NOT the Disney version) The step mother, step sisters, Cinderella, fairy Godmother, and Queen are all major roles!. This is a classic little girl's dream to grow up out of her misfortunes and become the Belle of the Ball and a princess!.

The Sound of Music might also be a great possibility!. Maria, the lead is obviously female!. And it would be very, very, very easy to have all seven of the children be girls, in fact that would be very cute!. The nuns are obviously all female!. I think this would be a great possibility!. It's a classic and a beautiful story!.

If you have mostly high school age performers, there's a very clever show called "Moby Dick the Musical!.' It's the tale of Herman Meville's famous whale, but it's told by students from an all-girl Catholic school!. It's quite funny!

School House Rock the Musical is another idea!. For the most part, the show is pretty flexible!. it does not matter too much if the roles are played by male or female performers!.

I hope these ideas helped!. I wish you the best of luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Wizard of Oz is easily done by an almost-all-girls cast - you need guys for the Wizard/Professor Marvel and Uncle Henry/Oz Guard, oh and probably the Mayor of Munchkin City, but the TinMan, Lion and Scarecrow can all easily be played by girls and the chorus shouldn't matter too much!. Just do the RSC version (much closer to the film) not the MUNY version!Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are male parts in Chicago that are important to the plot too, so I doubt outside guys could play a part even if you didn't go to a Catholic school!. Our school did this play last year!.It's an all female PLAY not a musical!. I'm not sure if this helps any, but the show was HILARIOUS!. It's called Radio TBS!. It might be offensive though because the party at the end is called 'Jesus and Elvis: A Tribute to the Kings'!. It is a really funny play about trailer park women having their own radio show and scandals!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Our church has this same problem, many girls, but few guys!. So the girls have been doing the guys roles!. They have fun with the show and borrow clothing from brothers, we have had to purchase a couple of wigs, and use some ace bandages in the "chest area"!. They have practiced their guy walking and lowering thier voices!. the performances have turned out great!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try "Stepping Out" (King/Harris)- all women, one man!.
The story of a disparate group of women and one man who meet every week in a church hall for a tap dance class!.
It climaxes in a glorious tap dance number at a charity concert!.
It was filmed in 1991 with Lisa Minnelli!.
You can see clips from various productions on YouTube!.
Your Catholic school will approve and its a real heart warmer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There's an opera that can be sung by musical theater singers that wouldn't be too difficult!.!.!.Hansel and Gretel (the English translation)!. The only male part is the father because Hansel is a mezzo soprano role!. The duet Fourteen Angels should be on Youtube if you look!. Not too well known, but the story is!. :-/Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have the same problem (as a teacher)!. My solution is quite simple: we came up with a plot to suit the cast, now all we have to do is write ourselves a minimum dialogue, and choose the most suitable (in terms of subject) jazz/pop hits!.

best luck Www@QuestionHome@Com
