Question: High E guitar string problem!?
I've had a squier strat for about 3 months right now, and I haven't noticed this problem until now!. For example when the strings are in standard tuning, everything sounds fine!. But whenever I play the intro to "The Pretender" by Foo Fighters, when I play the high E string on the 7th fret, it does not sound right!. Now what I have to do is change the tuning of that string so the intro sounds right!. What's wrong with the string, should I get it looked at in Sam Ash where I bought it!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've been playing the guitar for many years!. And had this problem before!.

What is happening is that not all guitars are made the same, some are built poorly!. Your metal bar net to the 7th is off!. Sometime by just a hair can cause this problem!.

if its a new guitar I'd take it back!. If not you may have to take it to a shop to have the bars re-set!.

Or just work about it!.

Hope this helps!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.8)Www@QuestionHome@Com

It sounds like you have a common intonation problem!.

Basically, intonation means that the string will sound the way it should sound when played at a given fret!. A good way to test this is harmonics!. Play your E string at the 12th fret, and then do a harmonic on the 12th fret!. If they don't sound the same, the intonation is off!. The best way to fix this is to adjust the truss rod!. You can attempt it yourself (there's plenty of info about this on the net) but I recommend getting a luthier/guitar tech to set up your instrument professionally!.

The other thing!.!.!.make sure you've changed your guitar's strings since you bought it!. Squier and other bargain brands put the absolute cheapest, worst quality strings on the guitars out of the factory, and so many people just leave them on without changing them!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your guitar is not in proper intonation!. You can go to Sam Ash and get it set up!. Ask them to fix the intonation for you!.

Or you can do it yourself!.
To fix this, Tune your e string then play on the 12th fret!. It's probably not in tune right!?
