Question: What is the best way to get my violin playing back!?
I know the answer, practice, practice, practice!. :)

I've played violin for 6 years (from my 8-14 yr) in a primary musical school, and as soon as i finished it, i stopped playing, and now i'm 22 (so, 8 years of not playing)!.

Recently, i got a desire to start playing it again, and not to have wasted 6 years of my life, so i bought a (cheap) violin, and started practicing!.

Anyone has any good exercises and etudes that i might use for my level!? I have also noticed that my vibrato is almost completely lost!. Any good exercises!? Suggestions!?

I've started with scalesWww@QuestionHome@Com

It's fair to say that your muscles have lost that violin-y feeling, so in some ways you're a beginner!. Yet in other ways you're fairly advanced!.

Scales are good!. Arpeggios also!. And any little technique exercises that will help you get back to it!.

You can accelerate your progress--and reduce the potential for pain and tendinitis--by practicing for short periods several times daily!. I would put the violin where I'd pass it several times daily, and whenever I passed it I would play for several minutes--even 30 seconds can contribute!. Do maybe 15 minutes at most, then set it down!. Slowly increase the length of the practice time and eventually you're practicing a full hour daily!.

As for the vibrato, play everything slowly enough so that you can focus on those fine points!. Speed will come later!.

There are plenty of books, videos, and websites out there to help you learn to play; I find that most of them are just as good as one another (a few of the amateur videos on YouTube might be questionable, but you know enough to smell them out)!. I'd buy methods books and instructional dvds used (second-hand bookstore or ebay, etc!.) and try out as many as I could; keep to the ones you find helpful, re-sell the ones you find useless, and set aside any that are too advanced until you catch up with them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Please get live help, paid or free!. You do not have to sign up for a lifetime of lessons!. Take a few months to get you on track!.

As for practicing
Keep your violin and music out of the case!. Ready to play!.
Practice every chance you get!. Short practices, but frequent!.
Start with something you can play well even if it is easy!.
Next work for a few minutes on something challenging!.
End with something fun!.
You can do this 2 to 5 times a day!.

Start looking for a group to play in!.
Duet, Trio, Quartet, Community or Church orchestra!.

I went through something similar!. I find a good exercise is to find a song you really really love!. And play it a few times everyday an your body will just naturally recall some of that technique as you try to play the song better and better!.

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
