Question: Know any references for violin repair!? It has pretty extensive damage!.!?
This isn't a particularly valuable violin but it belonged to my father!. My daughter plays and I would like to pass it on to her!. I don't play but I am pretty handy and I know that this is not beyond my skills - at the same time I don't want to do anything stupid to ruin it in the process!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Violin repair is very, very specialised so it be very cautious about trying any home handyman kind of work on it!. It depends what needs to be done to it, of course, but I'd advise taking it to a specialist and at least first getting a quote!. Maybe at the same time, you could quietly pick up some tips about what needs to be done to it!. The problem is that even the simplest changes (like moving the bridge or putting some varnish on a damaged section) can have a major impact on the tone and could even damage it beyond repair!.
Check Google for violin makers/repairers, or alternately speak to your nearest music shop!. They should be able to tell you of somebody you could see who's hopefully not too far away, because you would presumably have to take it in personally!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

If the edges are loose!. Use a hyde glue!. Thin it and brush it into the separation with a fine brush!.
If the finger board is loose!. Pop it off and re glue with Elmer's white glue!. (like for paper) clamps should be well padded!.
Pegs can be pulled, wiped clean and replaced using a little chalk dust on them!. do not force them in!. with light pressure turn each 10 or more times, before putting the strings on!.
If the sound post inside has fallen, do not tighten the strings!.
The bridge will most likely have to be replaced and should be done by a pro!. New strings are needed!.
All other repairs need to go to a violin shop!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Go to a menders maybe!? The check is 79!.99 and the mend will prob be expensive though!. Some handywork at home might add more damage to itWww@QuestionHome@Com
