Question: Need a good Clarinet for a high school student!!?
I'm looking for a clarinet (Under $600) that would be good for a high school student!. I don't plan on taking this as a profession but I would still want to play in adult groups after university!. Looking for a good quality clarinet that will sound good, handle weather (dry winters in Canada) and last for quite a long time!. My director was telling me about buying a Selmer or Buffet Clarinet!. Please help me out here :DWww@QuestionHome@Com

I have been playing Clarinet for four years, and I am also looking for a new clarinet!.

I have heard the best things about the Buffet Crampon E11 Intermediate Clarinet!. It has a fantastic sound, and is definitely a step up from the student models that Selmer and Brandy offer!.

If all goes well, this is the one I'll be getting my sophomore year! =D Hopefully christmas!.

The price new is about $1,000!.!.!. maybe more!. I have been keeping an eye on craiglist!.com (it's a local site for selling things!.!.!. so I can play it before I buy) and I have seen slightly used ones going for $400!. They were in very good condition, too!. I'll just have to wait for mi madre y padre to approve!!!!!

So yea!.!.!.!. like the majority of all intermediate clarinet players play the Buffet!. That's the way I'm going!

I live in Colorado!.!.!. and the weather is insanely dry!. Even though it is wood, with good care it can stand up without cracking and still keep that good sound!.

I do not own a Buffet clarinet but I own two student models which are both around your price range!.

I have a Selmer student clarinet (wood) and a Yamaha student clarinet (plastic)!. I think the Yamaha clarinet has very good keywork for a beginner's model and I have no difficulty moving my fingers very quickly or producing a nice tone (for plastic, at least)!. The Selmer has a very nice sound to it but the keywork is not the best for technical passages (I bought it seven years ago when I first started playing so they might have improved it)!.

I would recommend getting a wood clarinet either way!. Even though the winters will be dry and cold the bore of the clarinet is more resistant to cracking than other instruments, so as long as you have a "Dampit" in your case I wouldn't worry too much about the weather up there =)Www@QuestionHome@Com
