For what purpose!? It sounds like you want to switch instruments in your school band!.

Flute is the easiest switch from saxophone -- a lot of the fingerings are the same, at least!. Clarinet is very similar in terms of sound production!.

If you're a GOOD saxophonist, you could think about switching to oboe!. But oboe is a MUCH harder instrument to play well, so if you aren't at the top of your sax section, then I wouldn't bother with this one!.

If you want to switch to a brass instrument, I'd suggest baritone/euphonium!. Probably the easiest brass instrument to pick up!. But you're going to have to learn to read bass clef (which you should learn anyway)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Please don't tell us you've learned everything you can learn on the saxophone!. At 4 years, you've probably made a lot of progress, but there's *so* much to being a good musician, and a good saxophonist!. Talk to your band director, and ask him!. Be specific!. "I want to be a better saxophonist, but I don't know what I need to do to get there!."

If you have any desire to play professionally when you grow up, learn the clarinet and flute as well!. Many saxophonists, especially those who end up in big bands, have to be able to double on these instruments!.

If you want to be unique, learn the piccolo, bass clarinet, and if you want to try double reeds, oboe and bassoon!. But clarinet and flute will get you more chances!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the common doubles for sax players are (you guessed it) flute & clarinet!. What do you want to do with music in the long run!? if you want to play sax professionally-then get on with learning the common doubles so you can get gigs!.
if your wish is to be a pop star, maybe guiar or bass would be appropriate!. if you want the coolest parts for marching band, you are already there! (alto sax gets alot of counter melodies and neat licks in marching tunes)!.

so what is the purpose of learning a new instrument!?!?!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would have guessed the woodwinds would be the easiest route because that is what you play!. The fingerings are similar!.

What about percussion!? Percussion might be more fun for marching season and then play your saxophone for concert/contest season!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hey what

If I base myself on my horn studio players, one sax player is an awesome flute player (side flute)!. He says it opens up the possibilities in recording certain track!. It can't be worse then me playing piano as secondary instrument!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

not french horn! it's more difficult then the trumpet!. maybe the oboe or bass clarinet!? or even the trumpet or trombone!? or even the bassoon!? just suggestions though!Www@QuestionHome@Com
