i'm a long-time singer in a local pop/rock band!.!.!.since my voice is considered "contralto" (it's a step below female alto), the band has to adjust the key of every song we do to fit my range!.
occasionally, my friends and i go out to do karaoke!. the problem is, i have a difficult time finding songs that are automatically in my range!.!.!.which is a lot different than most females, unfortunately!.!.!.
i realize that most karaoke hosts can adjust the key, but it never works out right (as most are not used to doing so!)!.!.!.therefore, i'm looking for popular karaoke songs (ones that are in most karaoke books currently) that are already in my range!.!.!.!.
there's ONE artist of which i can sing virtually every single song that they have ever recorded: Shirley Manson (of Garbage)!. in fact, my range and tone are virtually identical to hers (which is somewhat low but feminine)!.
on the plus side, i can cover both male and female artists!.!.!.in fact, i can cover more male artists than female, when done in the original key!. a few songs i can sing well in the original key are:
Crazy Little Thing Called Love - by Queen
Authority Song - by John Mellencamp
You Are The Sunshine of My Life - by Stevie Wonder
Brown Eyed Girl (I change it to "Blue Eyed Boy", lol) - by Van Morrison
know of any other songs/artists that might be right up my alley!? (and nope, Toni Braxton, although considered a contralto, goes WAY higher than my range!)!.
btw, i enjoy today's and classic pop/rock/alternative - but i absolutely *can't stand* country, for some reason!
