think about this: 10 years from now you will be 27!.!.!.!.if you start now and apply yourself you will be amazing at an instrument that will bring you and others pleasure the rest of your life!.!.!.but if you think you are too old you will think at 27 "why didn't I start playing when I was 17!?"

It's the things we don't do in life we regret!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I wouldn't really know about violin, because I play cello!. But since they are pretty much the same thing, I think I can answer with some degree of accuracy!.

It actually depends on how serious you want to play!. If you want to play some pieces that are presentable in front of a casual audience (i!. e!. family gathering), the pieces that you want to play are about level three to level four!. With the help of a sufficiently experienced private teacher, you should advance to this level in about a year, sometimes 6 months, like in my friend's case!. If you play in an orchestra with a good director, it may take up to three years due to the high student:instructor ratio!. If you want to play professionally, you may have to constantly practice for at LEAST five years!. Of course, I am basing all these inferences on the assumption that you can read music!. If you can't right now, it may take a few extra months, in any case!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

At age 17 with music lessons from a good teacher plus setting aside 30 minutes a day for a few months and then 60 minutes after that, you should be able to play as well as most 3rd year students in a year!.

This is just an educated guess!. I have no idea how fast a learner or what limitations you might have!. With talent and motivation, you could progress much faster!. If you are ever going to give it a try, now is the time!.
