Question: Why do guitar lessons cost so much money!?

A professional teacher of music, first, takes a long time to master it!. Just as if you go to university you expect a higher salary than someone who didn't graduate high school, so people who have spent a long time acquiring a skill have what Adam Smith called "human capital," and they have a right to charge for sharing their experience!.

Second, a teacher will cut years off your learning curve and no matter how much they charge, you will have saved yourself an enormous amount of time and effort whereas if you teach yourself it will take much longer and be much harder!.

Third, a teacher will teach you to play in such a way as to prevent you from getting RSI!. The amount you will save from not having to have surgery will pay for many, many guitar lessons!.

Finally, a full-time teacher must eat, pay rent, etc!. and therefore is in a business!. Just as you don't expect to go into a store and walk out with goods for nothing, or go to a doctor and pay nothing for his services, your teacher's services go to pay his overhead!. If he doesn't make a living teaching, he won't be able to teach!. Therefore, if you want your teacher to be able to teach you, you must pay for lessons!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Professional tutors charge a lot because it takes them at least 10yrs!. to master their art,if they are good at teaching, then their ability to pass on such a fantastic art is priceless!.If you are really keen to learn and money is scarce then you need to find a guitarist who will help for free, theres lots about!.If your old enough ,you could start by going to pubs that have jam sessions and mixing with people there who are mainly interested in the music, many of whom are budding musicians!.Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

because for your teacher, that's a job and not charity!.

also, unlike other skills (computer, literacy etc) this is not something that will guard you against unemployment so the government does not subsidize them!.

However if you are under 25 there are in some areas youth centre etc that offer cheaper tuition for young people!. You need to do your search!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

because the instructor probably doesn't work 8 hours and get paid a salary

he (or she) might have a few lessons a day if he's lucky, but that still means the cost is going to increase to compensateWww@QuestionHome@Com
