In all honesty, you should pick the song that best showcases your talent and range, and also allows the director to easily visualize you in the role!. It's definitely best to avoid a song from the pay itself - unless the director has specifically asked for it!. You should also not sing anything from pop culture, High School Musical (please, for all our sakes, NEVER HSM), or anything from a current popular Broadway musical (NO Phantom, NO Wicked)!. These are all over-done, and directors are tired of hearing them!.

If you want to stand out, pick a song that resembles the vocal range and ability required for the part you want!. Ballads are better choices for school auditions where only one song is required, like yours, because they are better showcase performance pieces!. also, since the only comedic parts in this play are male (with the possible exception of Babette, who will need to be a dancer as well), you probably won't be cast based on comic chops; and since your school already knows who you are you don't need to show it through a character piece!.
You don't mention which part you are auditioning for!.!.!. if you choose a soprano role from Beauty and the Beast (like Belle), you might try something old Broadway - Gershwin, Rogers and Hammerstein!.!.!. that whole era:
- "Till There was You" from Music Man (Meredith Wilson)
- "A Lovely Night" from Cinderella (Rogers and Hammerstein)
- "The Man I Love" (Gershwin)
all are good Classic Broadway pieces that require a Belle-like vocal performance!. You could also, of course, sing something Disney!.!.!.though this is less professional!.

For an alto part (like Mrs!. Potts), I'd still go for an older Broadway ballad!. Good alto choices for a part like Mrs!. Potts include:
- "As Long As He Needs Me" (Oliver)
- "Someone to Watch Over Me" (Oh, Kay! - Gershwin)
- "And The World Goes 'Round" (Kander and Ebb)

It's best to have a piece as close to memorized as possible if not completely so - this way you can play with the emotions and movement of the piece!. Be sure to bring two copies of sheet music just in case (you can get it at www!.musicnotes!.com): one for you and one for the accompanist!. Practice, and wow the director!

Good Luck at auditions!
