Question:

I had my first guitar when I was 7!.!.but it was a cheap thing that wore out very quickly!.

Anywayz!.!.!.I couldn't get another acoustic guitar until May LAST YEAR!. My parents aren't that rich, and wanted me to focus on my work!.

Anyways, I have been practising everyday (6hrs!.) since, and I think I'm getting good at it:

Now I am in college!.!.and the sweetest opportunity just presented itself!.!.!.

My PHYSICS lecturer, says he has a new electric guitar he is willing to sell me at a reasonable price!. He is going to bring it tomorrow to show me!.

Originally I had planned not to buy another guitar until years later!. But I mean, I couldn't imagine a better opportunity!.

It just FEELS right, I mean, buying it from my professor ( someone who I look up to ) instead of amazon!.com just seems like to good an opportunity to pass up!.

My older brother is totally psyched for this, and willing to help me pay for it!.

But my mother (like all mothers) is negative, saying it will "destract me!."
I don't think my dad actually thought I was serious when I told him yesterday, I'm pretty sure though that he will give me a lecture as well!.

But I mean, ALL my life, I have been very studious, and hardly took part in extra activities!.!.I was never very good at sports!.

Now I've found something I can do, and enjoy doing!.!.!.shouldn't I pursue it !?

P!.S!. I am a triple science major!.!.and by NO means do I mean to drop out of college and form a band (LOL)!. However, if I can buy a good guitar now!.!.wouldn't it be silly to NOT buy it!. I think I am discipline enough to manage!.

well it would be silly to buy it if 1!.) you aren't that good 2!.) you don't practice THAT much [this might be just a random thing you've been doing lately, usually people can't play guitar for 6 hours!.!. kinda much, even the best!.!.!. because it's definitely frustrating, especially when you're learning new and more complex material]

ps: it's not just women that LOVE men because they play!. guys love the fact that i can serenade them with my beautiful voice and swift fingas!. i'm the only lady i know who can play the guitar!., i guess it's rare for women !.!.!. but the men love it too

Dude, just get the guitar!. You can't study all the time, you'll just burn out!. That being said, don't forget that you need an amp as well!. If your parents object, remind them that many great scientists were also musicians!. A couple of examples: Einstein and his violin, as well as Feynman and his bongos!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you are putting in 6 hours a day you are serious!. I hope you are putting in equal time or more on you studies!.

Well, assuming the price is reasonable and its good quality, there's no reason not to!. As long as you don't use a credit card or tap out your savings, I don't see any problems!.

That said, make sure you do your research!. You don't want to pay any kind of real money for a starter guitar!.

Having an electric guitar has the following benefits:
1) Roommates love guitars and amps!. Especially at 3am!.
2) Women!. All women love guys that play guitars!. Its true - I looked it up!.
3) You can laugh at all the guys playing Guitar Hero since you have the real thing!.
4) If the triple science major thing doesn't pan out, you can always join a band!. Everybody needs a fallback!.

Music is another way of stimulating your brain!. rhythm, melody, harmony, phrasing scales, chords, modes etc!.!.!. its a whole other world and it can get very complex!. with that being said, its also a great stress release!. many athletes cross train!. for example, i know a great deal of skiers and snowboarders who go mountain biking during the off season!. music will be beneficial to you as a person and in your studies if it doesn't distract you!. i've been playing for almost 3 years and it is very fulfilling, i don't know what i would do without my guitar!.

i don't know what kind of guitar you have now but if you have an electric guitar, you should upgrade the amp first!. however if you are buying an acoustic then that obviously doesn't matter!. when you buy your guitar make sure the neck isn't warped, inspect as carefully as you can and learn as much as you can about the guitar before hand!. it's also a good idea to ask for the serial number and then do some research on that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course, check which guitar brand!.
If is a Gibson you better buy it, if it's a Fender it's ok!. Even a Dean, Ibanez, Jackson, Schecter, Kramer, Charvel!.!.!.
Don't buy the guitar if it say "Squier by Fender", Starcaster, or Gibson Maestro, or Washbourn!.

If you like playing and you're good at it then go for it, practice everyday, but do your homework first LOL!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
