Question: How to rosin and tighten a violin bow!?
I just bought my first violin and I took out the rosin and found it to be crushed!. I took out what I could and used it to rosin the bow!. It sounds scratchy when I use it on the strings!.

Is it suppose to sound scratchy!?
Is it okay if the rosin is crushed!?
How tight do I tighten the bow hairs!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The end of the bow (frog) has a piece that can be turned like a screw!. Turning it clockwise tightens the bow!. Tighten it so that the hair does not touch the stick, but the stick should still curve toward the hair!.
The crushed rosin will make it easier to rosin the bow the first time, but you need to get a new cake!.
The bow if moved slowly will sound scratchy at first!.
Find a teacher and get some help!.

It probably sounds scratchy, because you put too much rosin (it will usually sound squeaky when you didn't put enough)!.
It probably wasn't a good idea to use the rosin if it was crushed, because it might damage the hairs on the bow!.
When you tighten your bow, you should make sure that the bow keeps its curve, if not then its probably too tight!. also make sure you untighten it once you stop playing and you put everything away!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A good violin tone is not scratchy!. To avoid this sound, play in between the bridge and fingerboard, and have a faster bowstroke with less pressure!. Have the bow parallel to the bridge!. You'll need to get new rosing to effectively rosing your bow!.
At the end of the bow, there's a screw, turn right to tighten, and to the left to loosen!. You should tighten so that the hairs are straight and don't touch the wood, but the wood is still curved towards the strings!. Always loosen the bow before putting it away!.
I suggest getting a private teacher if you are interested in playing the violin!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The rosin is probably cheap!. Go to the store you bought your violin from and ask for some higher quality rosin!. No, it's not supposed to sound scratchy, and the rosin DOESN'T WORK if it's crushed!. To tighten the bow hairs, there is a little knob on the bottom!. Just turn that to the right, and it will become tight!. Turn it to the left, and it will become looser!. (Righty tighty Lefty Loosey! :)
You may want to consider hiring a private violin teacher to teach you more about the violin and how to take care of it!.

Hope I helped! :D :D :D :D :DWww@QuestionHome@Com

1-HECK NO! (sorry if it sounds mean)
2- No, then you cannot rosin the bow
3- There is a little know at the end of the bow, turn it to the right when you start playing(tighten it), and turn it left when you are done playing(loosen it) If you still need more help, I reccomend google, or asking an orchestra/strings teacher at your school, or a professional, or someone who already knows this!.

Hopes this helps!

Hi Wiley

After working 15 years in the music wholesale business, if the bow is brand new, you have to break a piece of teh rosin and making it like powder!.
You sprinkle it on the bow and you use the unbroken piece to rub the powder on the bow!.
Before doing this, ake sure the bow is tightened first by turning the end screw clockwise!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
