Question: My piano is too "rigid"!. More details inside!!?
It's a Kawai Upright Piano, which I bought at about $3000!. When I first played on it, the keys seemed very rigid and unsmooth!. Like, when I do a scale, it will take me more effort to press down on each note than other pianos!. In fact, this makes my piano sound kind of choppy-especially when playing loudly!. I have tuned it a few times, but it still remains the same!. also, the high notes (like 2 octaves above the neutral C) are too "piercing" if you know what I mean!. In fact, all of the notes are way too crisp, instead of this soft sound!.
Can anyone help please!? Thx!
O, I have played on this piano for about 4 and a half years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need to find a piano technician who can do MORE than tune - it sound to me like your piano needs action regulation and voicing!. Most piano techs, if they found this is what it needed, would have TOLD you so - unless you said "All I need is tuning!."!. Only you can speak up and say that the action is stiff, you do not like the brilliance of the top octaves, etc!. Unlike tuning, these procedures only need to be done every few years, at most!. Again - this something that I cannot diagnose from a distance, but only surmise form your description!. Call someone GOOD today!. Kawai is a decent home piano brand, and you should not have to be dissatisfied!. Is this REALLY old!? Maybe this was never done!. And even NEW pianos often arrive with the need for adjustment!. Pick up the phone - no reason to put up with this, when it can be fixed!. Then - pick up your checkbook - it is going to be a little investment!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You should consult a professional piano tuner!. An oversoft keyboard action can be improved with weights, but I am not sure how a badly made action can really be improved!. With pianos, you get what you pay for!. When you buy a good brand and pay more, you get better hammer construction - the felts are better, the action components are more quality and made to work more smoothly!.

Tuning is a different matter than consulting a tuner specifically about the action of your keyboard!. There may not be a lot that can be done if it is really cheaply put together!. It would be a rebuilding job that would cost thousands and may not be worth it!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
