Question: How do you repair a cracked cymbal (in drumming)!?
Got a crack around the bell of a Paiste crash!. Tried to drill holes on either end of crack to stop it from spreading, but I can't drill through the cymbal without damaging the bit!. Tried electrical tape, but it muffles the sound!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ego is 100% right!.!.!.

Sometimes people try to cut their cracked part off and they just ruins the whole tone of the cymbal itself!. I destroyed my old Paiste 10"

Yep!.!.time for a new cymbal!. Ive known a couple of people who have been able to repair them right when detected, and, if a small crack!. But, they were also very experienced welders!. As a retired tool and die maker/welder, I can assure you that brass is extremely hard to repair!. Especially a cymbal, as when brass is heated, if someone has not done A LOT of brazing, all kinds of things will happen to it!. also, your standard high speed drill bit has to be sharpened on a different angle to be successful in drilling through brass!. Thats why the damaged bit!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Nope!. Time for a new cymbal!.

Sometimes the hole in the cymbal gets distorted or "keyholed"!. This is less likely to occur when you clamp the cymbal tight with felted washers!.

You may be able to repair your cymbal somewhat with a metal file!. Instead of drilling the crack out of the hole, try filing it out!. This will enlarge the hole, which could cause a different problem!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
