Question: What do you do if you would like to be a musician but you have an UGLY name!?
I truly love music, I don't want to become famous just for the sake of being famous, I just want to be successful in the field and I wonder if I could have been famous if I had chosen a different path in life!. I'm 29 and wonder if it's too late for me to choose a different path but music is where my heart is!.

Here's a problem and most people don't understand why it bothers me, but it REALLY bothers me!. I have a VERY generic-sounding full-name!. An extremely common first name, and a VERY generic last name!. I've never had a sense of identity because in every school I've attended, there's always at least one other person with that same full name!. As an artist, I would like to have a name that sounds like an artist, elegant, classy and a touch of glamour!. I have a name that doesn't suit me at all!.!.!. and it's a detriment!. It doesn't sound like an artist!.!.!. it sounds like someone common, plain, and unremarkable and unglamourous!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Change your name!. Simple!. Lots of artist and actors change their name!. Not really an issue!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Stage name, or a name you go by when you perform!.

Like Buckethead was born Brian Patrick Carroll, Tom Morello uses the title 'The Nighwatchman' for his solo project

I'm a musician too (well I consider myself one, like you I just want to be successful) but my name is not a common name, a lot of people pronounce it incorrectly!. At the moment, my 'stage name' is a wordplay of my real name!. It's weird, but interesting, and at least people can say it correctly!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can always make a stage name!. Some of the better ones imo are Synyster Gates (Avenged Sevenfold), Slash (Guns n Roses), even Tre Cool is a stage name (drummer from Green Day)!. His real name is like Frank Edwin Wright III!.

But, people won't care much about your name if your music is good!. Think about it, would you rather listen to an artist with no talent but a flashy name, or a beautiful piece of music written by John SmithWww@QuestionHome@Com

You don't even have to go through a formal name change process; invent a 'stage name'!. A nom de plume!. All the rappers do it!.

Or: use a nickname!.

Do you have a middle name!?

An observation: would you consider Dave Matthews, James Brown, Nancy Wilson, Diana Ross, Hank Williams, to be names too common to be worthy of famous musicians!? Seems to me that if your sound gets into people's hearts, any name will do!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Look to old classical names
J!. S!. Bach etc!.
Use your initials!.
Your mothers maiden name!.
Famous people from the past!.
Something to do with the instrument you play or the type of music you like!.
