There isn't really a certain brand that most professionals use - it's about preference of tone, quality etc!.
A lot of people seem to use Boss though!. I personally own a Boss ME30, a multieffect board, but professioonals usually use single effect pedals - and a lot of them!. They tweak every individual pedal to get their "perfect sound", although this can be very costly!.

I would suggest buying a multieffect board for a beginner-intermediate player!. Unless you plan on playing guitar as a profession or you have enough money lying around, a multieffect board should suffice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
