Question: Would i be an alto or second soprano!?
i have been thrown around from alto to second soprano numerous times in the past, and i was wondering which one i should stick with, so when i audition for my school's advanced choir i don't seem like i'm hopeless!. i definitely have a lower speaking voice for a girl, but while singing, i can reach both alto and second soprano notes!. i find reading music easier as an alto, because as a second soprano i get my part confused with the others!. i can't really say i sound better as one part over another, because i don't sound amazing at the bottom of my range, but i often sound quite bad near the top of my range as well!. what is your advice!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would suggest that you stay as an alto since you have difficulty keeping your notes when your singing in Soprano 2 octave!. If you are needed to do the Soprano 2 as back up make it known to your conductor and practice your Soprano 2 on the side!. Be a strong Alto 1 and be an okay Soprano 2, you'll be versatile and be considered for duets/solos!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In chorus and past music classes I was also thrown around from alto to soprano section numerous times!. They finally figured out that I just have a deep speaking voice, but I can sing high notes!. So, they left me with the soprano section!. It was difficult, but I found singing higher notes when I sang loudly to actually be easier for me!. I think you should choose the one that is easier for you to do!. If you want a challenge, choose the opposite!. Just my opinion!. I hope you find which one is right for you and that you are happy with it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
