By all means, learn another! Since I started playing piano at age 4, ive played many more instruments since then!. While bass is my main instrument, (40+ years of playing,) ive also learned guitar,(20+years), went back to piano, organ, and synthesizers!. At one month shy of turning 50, I have been noodleing around with the drums for the past 6 months!. Besides the bass, ive also been able to play guitar and keyboards professionally, and not just as a hobby!. So far, none of these instruments have taken away from the other, and its made me a better overall musician!. When I write original music, i dont have to rely on anyone else!. While my drum playing is not where I need it to be for recording my own originals yet, I still practice daily and use a drum machine that I do very extensive programming on for my originals!. Down the road!. being a multi-instrumentalist should help you if you ever decide to write!. As a bass player only for many years, it was very hard for me to write music!. Seems like everytime ive picked up another instrument, its complimented and helped me on the others I already play!.

Hope this has helped!. KEEP PLAYIN!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've performed on over 100 different instruments (honestly! including a lot of funky world instruments like shakuhachi, caval, saway, darbuka)!.

Learning a second/third/fiftieth instrument is beneficial in many ways!. It can inform you about alternative ways of approaching your main instrument (as you learn percussion, you get a sense of percussive effects on guitar, for example)!. It can help you appreciate quality in other musicians who play your second instrument!. It can help you in working in bands when it's time to discuss arrangements!.

Your model might be Dave Grohl, currently guitarist/frontman for the Foo Fighters, who broke into prominence as the drummer in Nirvana!. also of note: Adrian Belew (King Crimson), who suffered through the disco era playing drums in a hotel-circuit band b/c he couldn't stand using a guitar in that crappy music!. And we do recall Phil Collins who drummed for Genesis but turned into a pianist as a solo artist!.

No shortage of rockers who are known for guitar but who can slide behind the drumset when needed!. Go for it!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some of the best Guitarist in the world know Bass & Drums, it can help you with drums helping you keep beat and bass teaching you where chords are ect ect, it couldn't hurt to learn more than one instrument but if your looking to play in a band then learn more than one and you will have more of a chance due to the fact bands could be looking for either!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Go ahead! Try both instruments because they don't affect each other in terms of technique, as compared to the brass and woodwinds!. All the best! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com
