Hey,

You question is pretty hard because you haven't told me how much you want to spend!. I hav been building my own electric guitars now for a little over a year andI have been playing for about 22 years!. The first thing you want is versatility, I say that because right now you are into the metal as was I when I began back in the 80's!. I loved speed metal and hard core death metal such as GWAR, Slayer, Testament, Morbid Angel, ect!. At that time I had a BC Rich Warlock which at that time was a cool looking guitar and had the metal look!. IMO however the best "metal" guitars ou there for a decent price are Ibanez!. You can get one of there RG series and hot rod it yourself or you can look at Epiphons new series that includes the EMG 81/85 combo that is popular with the sounds your looking for!.

As I got oder I started to get into the blues and decided to go after the Holy Grail of guitars and being the Gibson Les Paul!. Much to my surprise when I played in a band and did gigs that hunk of wood killed my shoulder after performing 12-15 songs so I went after a G&L!. I have owned everything from a Fender to a PRS and now I build my own because I can build it the way I want it!. I wouldn't suggest anyone do that unless your going to buy the pieces and build it like that!. I build everything from the neck to the body out of raw wood and up but you can go to places like Warmoth and buy anykind of body ad neck you want!.

The Les Paul is the most versitile guitar out there IMO and it can play every kind of music you can think of please know that the Epiphone LEs Paul is the exact same thing as the GIbson except for the name and pickups!. You can save yourself thousands of dollars and buy one and throw in a pair of EMGs and now you have a Zack Wild sounding guitar for about 600 rather than 4500!. THe second choice would be an Ibanez and third maybe a fender that is equipt with a humbucker and 2 singl coils!. What your main issue will be however is pickups!. You need high output pickups if you want that deap cruch death metal like sound!. Dont think you have to go with active pickups either!. SD makes some real good pickups that are not active that are awesome for metal!. SD's JB is great and the custom/custom is another one!. DIMarzio also deals with many metal players as they had equipt most of the metal bands of the 80's!. research before you buy and even go to a local shop and play around to find out what works for you!. Dont ever buy a guitar because of looks!. I dont care if it is a 5A flame maple top!. Just because they look cool or have a big price tag doesnt mean they will sound good!. I hve a PRS Modern Eagle which is now worth about $10K and I would only play blues with it period!. I bought it for 4500 back when it was first made and pretty much keep it for collector value now but this is a great example of high dollar not being a good choice!.

You next issue will be your amp!. I would stick with Creat or even the Behringer Vampire series!. They have onboard effects and you can get the 100wt Vampier for under $300 with the foot box!. Roland has the cube amp thats a great buy as well but I dont know if your in a band or if your looking to go that way!. Carvin IMO has the best deals on the market for amps as they have tube and solid state!. Tube are pretty much for us guys in our 30's and up as the tone is something that a solid state cannot produce!. Check them out on the web and drool over the stuff they offer!. They also offer a build your own electric kit that is an awesome buy and it is geared toward metal as well!. I hope I gave you some ideas and if you need more specific answers please dont hesitate to contact me vie email and I can help ya out as much as I can!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Any guitar can sound like metal you just need a good distortion pedal!.
as far as playing i woud choose a fender of an ibanez, they play solos better because their tremolo bridges make the strings more flexable Www@QuestionHome@Com
