Question: Help with buying a new oboe!?
I know oboes are expensive, and I want a wooden one!. I have a limited price range!. Even though $800 isn't much, can I still get a good oboe!? My oboe teacher has given me a couple brands to look for on ebay, but only a couple have ended in my price range!. What brands and types of wood would be good for me to get!? I am a high schooler and intend to play oboe for quite a long time!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

You did the right thing!. You got information from the person who is teaching you!. Obvious you trust that judgment!. Tell the teacher what you have found and get a response!.
These are the things that teachers can be such a big help with!. Don't go with strangers recommendations!.
Good Luck
We need all the good Oboe players we can get!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, you really can't get a good oboe for $800!. You really can barely buy a bad one!. I'm sorry to say that, but it's true!.

If you are planning on playing this through college you would be wise to purchase and oboe that can take you through that time!. You need an oboe with a left F and I think an articulated C# is also a necessity!. If you get those, you should also get the low B flat (not even negotiable; you must have one!)!.

There are some cheaper brands out there!. They are worth what you pay -- or LESS!. Probably the lowest priced decent oboes are Fox Renard and Yamaha!. (But again, be sure you get the necessary keys!) Feel free to email me privately to ask about this!. I've been teaching oboe since 1974!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

there is a business in california that does nothing but sell refurbished instruments (with warranty)!. i am sure they will give you great quality at an excellent price!.You can get an oboe in perfect working condition for about 30% of the cost of a new one!.
much safer than getting one on ebay or craigs list!.
