so I know it's possible, but is that idea like, uhh, out of this world CRAZY!? I'm in high school!. not marching band, but we do march once a year!. i'm also on the small side!. so!.!.!. advice!? Did you switch or know someone who did!? Do you play tuba!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sure, it involves a different set of skills and muscles, but really isn't all that difficult!. I don't play flute, but I do play clarinet, recorder, saxophone, and tuba!. And it is pretty easy to switch back and forth between them!.

The embrochure for tuba is so different, it won't interfere with the embrochure you develop for the other instruments!. The breath support you'll develop for tuba is mainly low-pressure, high-flow-rate, which will help you once you switch back to flute!.

Regarding your size, that may be a problem!. Most kids can't handle a full-sized tuba very well until they are in 8th grade!. If you have access to a sousaphone for marching, get a fiberglass one!. The fiberglass horns sound lousy, but weigh less than 20 pounds, compared to 35-40 pounds for the brass sousaphones!.

The Tuba parts in school bands are rarely difficult!. You would be playing a lot fewer notes!. When I played Tuba, I was considered an average sized guy!. The Sousaphone was very uncomfortable to march with, but easy to sit and playWww@QuestionHome@Com
