It is and it isn't!. Use the music to get the chord voicings correct and use it to find the other accent notes he plays!. Beyond that you should learn the feel, rhythm and the entire song by listening and learning from the music!. This will be a slow process at first, just a bar of music at a time!. But you'll really learn it!. Not that Jimi tuned his guitar down a half step so E A D G B E becomes Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb!. Tuning down a half step like Jimi did will allow you to play along with him in the position he played it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

All Hendrix is hard to play, not only a virtuoso at his instrument but he also had a unique style!. He tended to play both the rhythm part and the lead part at the same time!. Having said that 'The Wind Cries Mary' is a great song and probably one of his easier ones!.

I would start by just learning the chord sequence and then add the fills once you got those down!. Though I still wouldn't try to play it exactly like he did, I would find my own way of interpreting it!.

Interestingly I was just listening to that song a couple of days ago and thinking about if I should learn it myself!. I'm not a terribly skilled guitarist myself (I tend to just accompany myself with chords while I sing) but I like that song and I like the lyrics!.

By the way if you really want to play like Jimi did you would have to take your right handed guitar (assuming that you are right handed) and play it upside down and left-handed!. I wouldn't recommend that unless thats the way you play already, but thats the way he played!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
