It depends on how they're running the auditions!.

Many theatres use "call backs!." They hear everyone, then narrow it down to 3 or 4 people for each principal role, and call them back in to audition again!. From that, the director will choose who he or she wants for the part!.

That could take a few days, or it could be immediate, within hours!.

Even without call backs, it can take anywhere from a few hours to a week or more!. It really depends on how soon they want to start rehearsals, etc!.

also, some theatres make it clear when you audition that you will NOT be notified if you do not make the cut -- that if you don't hear anything by <some date>, you can assume you didn't make it!. I don't like that approach, as I feel anyone who takes the time and effort to audition deserves at least a notification as to their status!.
