Question: Which is a better bass guitar for a 12 y/old beginner!?
Which is better!? A "Dean" playmate bass, black slim body, or an "sx gypsy rose" purple sparkle, short scale bass!? Would $90 be reasonable for either!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi Boxcar Joe:

Been sitting here doing some research on the two!.!.!. im assuming they are both used!? I did see the sx Gypsy Rose on e-bay!.!. new!.!. for 99 bucks!. Not familiar at all with that brand!.!.!.!. and the Gypsy appears to be a generic bass!. Ive yet to see these in ANY reputable music store!. Doesnt mean its a good bass!.!. just no one seems to carry it!

The Dean is not a bad guitar!. If used!.!. I would definately take someone who knows guitars with you on the purchase!. A person who has played for some time would be able to look for some VERY important things!. How well are the frets are set and "dressed" in the neck, is the neck straight, are there any issues with hardware on the guitar!? Is it fully set up properly and calibrated right!? A calibration on a bass is roughly about 60 bucks!. Would hate to see you purchase a guitar that is totally unplayable!.!.!.and have to sink 2/3 of the price back into it!.

Now!.!. if your budget is higher, I could make a couple of recommendations!. The Squier Jazz bass is an excellent bass for a new player!. Easy neck to play, and is versatile in styles of music that can be played on it!. Heres a link for that particular bass, and it has EVERYTHING needed for a new player to get going!.

The next bass I would recommend would be the Peavey Millenium BXP4!. Heres the link for that bass!.

Ive played Peavey for years now, primarily their 5 and 6 string Cirrus Basses, ($2,000 and up) and the quality on the bass ive selected is VERY good for the price of the guitar!. The neck on the Millenium is just as playable as the high end Peaveys I own, and also is suited for many styles of music!.

Ibanez also makes some very good entry level basses, and for a 12 year old!.!.!. im assuming with a smaller hand!.!.!.!. any of the basses ive recommended would be very easy to learn on!.

Hope this has helped!.!.!.!. and congrats to the new player choosing a wonderful instrument that will hopefully give them years of enjoyment!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
