Question: How do I play these notes!?
Two notes, connected like eighth notes, but unfilled, like half notes!. The mathematical part of my brain says that they should be played as quarter notes, but I get the feeling that they aren't supposed to be played that way, because Beethoven was perfectly capable of writing quarter notes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, I pulled out my copy of Beethoven's Sonata in C Minor -Opus 13 "Pathetique" and it is indeed a tremolo!. Just like the other person said!. I might have been written like that for visual purposes, since it's the same note repeating!. My copy has been written the same way as yours!. I'm also thinking that it might have been written like that for practice purposes, so that once you get up to speed you can actually play it faster using a tremolo!.I would suggest that you get a copy of the song, possibly check on youtube for performances of it, so that you can hear it being play!. It might make it easier for you to understand!. Good luck, this is my all time favorite Beethoven Musical Selection!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

are u sure the notes weren't printed wrong!? if they weren't, then i think u read them as eighth notes because they are connected togetherWww@QuestionHome@Com

This is a tremolo - you rapidly alternate the two notes!. Without more info about the meter, etc!. we cannot tell you how long to do this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm sorry I don't know, what information can you gain from the meter of the music!? Are there any other notes in the measure!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Are you sure it's not a slur or tie!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
