Question: Buy or rent a student flute!?
I need a beginner student flute for my daughter!.

A local music store offers rental of a Yamaha YFL221 for a school year for $160 or buy it for $569!.

Another music store offers rental of a Gemeinhardt 2SPJ for $99 or buy it for $365!.

I was told that the Yamaha flute is much better than Gemeinhardt, but I'm not sure I want to spend $600 to buy one yet!. Should I buy the 2SPJ or rent the YFL221!?

Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

BUY! Renting is basically just throwing $ away! I usually sell student flutes for $100-150 (sometimes less) and I have an Armstrong student flute that I'll probably be listing on eBay tonight (Sunday) for less than or around $100!. Feel free to contact me from the link below for more info and I also have a few friends that sell mint condition Yamaha student flutes for less than $400 which may be good for your daughter!. Hope that helps! Thanks -SuzieWww@QuestionHome@Com

I would definitely start out renting!. Maybe try that out for a semester, and if your daughter really does like it, there are some places that do rent-to-own instruments!. That's how I got my first trombone!. If she still likes it after about a school year or so, then you'll have already put some money toward it and if not, then you'll have just paid to rent it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Rent it because she might not like playing the flute in the long run!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
