Question:

I am playing a bass drum at my school's marching band, and I have the bass drum attached to a harness, so it is hanging in front of me!.

I just started in the middle of everything, and I've never played bass drums (or any type of drums before)!. My school ran short of drummers, so I decided to join!. So far, I get most of the basics, but I don't know how to drum roll as efficiently!. What can I do to practice!? If there are any videos that I can watch to learn from it, please add it!

well i would start more simply than that--get back to basics-- are you holding the sticks properly!?!?!? are you getting them to bounce back rather than pulling them back!?!? You need a metromone and set it slowly to half notes and hit a practice pad with one hand then the other at slow speeds until they are smooth and relaxed then alternate hands, then alternate hands, and when it is smooth and sounding like a machine up the speed a notch-- if you can practice in front of a mirror, and look at your hands and arms-- are they the same!? are they in the same position as the guys on u tube-- and yes u tube is full of great videos and lessons-- google something like snare technique!. better still if you can afford it--get a teacherWww@QuestionHome@Com

Seriously!.!.!.you have to practice on your drum rolls!.
It takes a lot of strict pratice devotion time to it and
it doesn't come overnight!.

All I can say is learn the basic snare drum rudiments like:

1!. 5, 7, & 10 Stroke rolls
2!. Flams
3!. Paradiddles & Double paradiddles
4!. Buzz rolls

You can go on Youtube and type in words like:

"Snare Drum rudiments"
"Snare drum rolls"

also, buy a little $10 dollar basic drum book at your local music
store too to help as well!. Good luck
