Usually but not always!. I know tons of songs that start on a chord other than the tonic major!. The only way to tell the key of a song is to see the sheet music or with a better understanding of theory!.

There is no hard and fast rule as to the ending note of a solo!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, that's not at all the case--maybe the song started on the dominant (E major)!

Usually you can tell what key a song is in (other than looking at the key signature, of course!) is what chord it ENDS on, but if you're talking about solos you can end on whatever chord makes the subsequent accompaniment sound natural and/or interesting!. (CPE Bach did this very well)

Don't get too hung up on the restrictions imposed by "accepted theory"; there's actually a lot of breathing room (pun intended)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Unless the composition ends in another key, the ending note of the main melody will usually be an A note!.

Many songs change keys throughout the composition, but basic chord structure usually calls for the ending chord to be as the key signature!.

A solo instrumental, however, is not rigid in its ending!. It might even end in a dominant seventh chord!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

no noo no no no and no
jimi hendrix came and threw all those books out
too many lessons and theories and teachers will spoil you, though you will need some, but in the end real playing is not found in books

its the sound that comes out
never mind the techiques as long as it sounds great ok
