Most people do not breathe deeply -- they take their breath into their lungs -- sometimes only to a very shallow level and then breathe it right back out!. To breathe using your diaphragm, stand up, put your hands on your abdoment and breathe in naturally -- note where your breath ends!. Now breathe in deeply enough to pull the air into your abdomen to the degree that the air pushes your abdomen out!. !.

Now sing a note and as you sing push your abdomen in with your hands and you'll feel the air column pushing up through your system and then into your throat, You'll be surprised at how much more power you'll get from your notes!.

Learning to breathe using the diaphragm as a matter of course takes some practice -- but if you do it you'll see the difference!.

Incidentally, a variation of this same technique is used in yoga and is called "pranayama" -- it is very healthy and deeply cleansing for your system!. The idea is to fill the entire system with air and then release it slowly!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

OK, on the Ellen show, they did this really funny song that went something like, "sing from your hoo-ha!." Basically that is what it is!. You are gathering breath from as!.!.!.far!.!.!.down!.!.as!.!.!.possible!. Lie on your back and place a book on your very lowest part of your belly!. Practice breathing deeply and see how much you can get the book to move up and down!. Breathe in for a count of 8 and blow out as if through a straw and see if you can make your out-breath last for 16, 20, 24!? The more you can control your breath, how efficiently you get it in and can sustain it, the more vocal control you're going to have!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Stand up or sit up straight and relax your shoulders!. The head should be slightly forward for the least strain on the vocal chords!.

The concept of diaphragmatic (word thought up by my drama teacher) breathing is false because all breathing is done with the diaphragm!. Place your hands on your diaphragm (just below your rib cage) and breathe in and feel how it moves out!. That's what you shold do when you breathe when you sing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

here's and exercise!. make the ZZZ sound and push out hard using your stomach!. that called using your diaphram!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
