Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
teaching and playing as careers are very different although some do both!.

Playing as a career means one of two paths!.

1!. Playing as a session musician (anywhere from a seat in an orchestra to playing jazz standards on piano in fancy hotel bars!.) which is less about your individual creative power, and more about playing the structure correctly!.

OR

2!. Going for composing/performance on the national/world stage!. Becoming a rock star or famous composer!. you break the mold, you make millions, it's about as easy as getting hit by lightening (except unlike lightning, if you work really hard you can attain something close) But more than likely you'll be teaching on the side, and you'll be lucky to make much cash from that!.

teaching I haven't done as much of, but it's a steady however modest paycheck!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah, I do!.

I teach violin and keyboard to children!.

My personally like, is I can do something that i love as my career!.
Imagine, if you love music and you can use it as your career!. You can work with happy, fun!.!.

Considering!?!?
Uhm!.!. yeah, you must considering it before!.

NB: I teach as my sidejob!. I'm still student!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I taught orchestral instruments for over 30 years!. The best part is seeing progress!. You get to shape the lives of young people!. No student is ever wasted!. Sometimes the answer is that violin is not for this individual!.
Music students tend to be the smartest and easiest to work with!.
Many of my former students are now my best friends!.
I did not like that the school board would hear of great progress somewhere and decide that we should follow that path!. They would tell us to find out what the others are doing, develop a program that would duplicate it and come back in 1 to 3 years and report on our success!. Paperwork can become overwhelming!.
If I had it all to do over again I would!.
