Question: Can anyone give me advices or tips on how to play the bass drum!?
I joined my school's marching band on wednesday!. They needed another drummer or they would have to redo the whole 32 sets that they worked on for the entire summer!.!.!.so they are grateful to me!.!.
I have never learned how to play drums before, and I'm coming in, in the middle of everything, so it's difficult!.!.!.
I have learned a few basics from my instructors, but what else can I do to improve!? I want to make myself useful rather then watching the marching band perform, which has been going on for the last three days!.

1) Counting - you should be able to know where you are on a page and know when you should come in through counting!. Usually it is just counting to 4 and going back!. If you're at a really long rest (e!.g!. 7 bars) then count like this: 1234,2234,3234,4234,5234 etc!. so that you don't loose your place!.
2) Look Up - there's a magical percentage in band~ 40% on your music and 60% on the conductor!. Look up, and watch the conductor!. He/she is counting for you!. They can even give you queues of when to start again!.
3) Know your music so that you can look up
