Question: Choosing an instrument!?
I am in Beginning Band and we're choosing our instruments!.

I like flute, but I can't play it!.
I can't play clarinet because my brother plays it and my mom doesn't want us competing!.
I can't play percussion because I'm not good at it and don't like the banging!.
I can't play oboe because it takes too much time and you have to get private lessons to really succeed!.

I can play:
sax-I like this, but we already 3 sax players in our small group, while we need 2 when we only have 1 French Horn!.

French horn-my teacher wants me to play this, but I don't like it so much!.

Trumpet-I'm not as good at this!.

Euphonium-I kind of like this one!.

I'm considering brass because I thought I wouldn't be really good at it and I actually am!. But I heard that normally french horn or euphonium does the background-I think I'd rather play the melody!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I tend to agree with trumpet on this one, but then again I am a little biased!. I played Trumpet, snare, bass drum, upright base, violin, clarinet, flute, tuba, sax, trombone (a little) and stuff like that all through school!. Trumpet is the brass for melody!. It takes some time to get used to it, but its really simple once you start!. The hardest part is getting used to making noise on that mouth piece!. Your lips get all tingly and what not!.!.!.!.But I digress!.!.!.!.!.!.!. I say go with the Trumpet and get it out of your head that you're no good at it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I play French Horn and even though french horn doesn't have melody, when we do, it sounds amazing!. I think what you need to do is think about what you want!. Trumpet has the most melodies and is relatively easy to play!. Euphonium doesn't have as much melody as trumpet does but it has more than French Horn!. Choose what you feel like you want to play!. You won't enjoy band if you have an instrument you don't like to play!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I play the flute and i have actually been in band for 2!.5 years! I know that band teachers are always looking for more bass and brass players, so i guess the french horn or the Euphonium would be kind of cool!. Personally, i have never been even slightly good at brass so i don't know what to tell you!. Just pick the instrument that you have always wanted to play or the one that u are comfortable with!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

euphonium is a good choice!. It'll give you the discipline of handling trumpet style armbreture!.!.!. however if you really want to play sax, learning a brass instrument may make that tranisition to a reed more difficult!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

bust out on some serious blues licks you've got my voteWww@QuestionHome@Com

i'd play trumpet if i were you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm in jazz and concert band, ive been playing my alto 5 years and my bari sax two!.

If you want melody, andI 'm being serious here pick either clarinet trumpet ALTO saxophone (i put alto in caps because that type of sax usually has melody sometimes tenor NEVER bari) and perhaps flute!. But since you cant play clarinet, flute or trumpet !. your choice is mainly alto!. this is cool because it uses a reed but the sound of a sax is more towards brass and its also made of brass!. plus there are many types of saxophones (soprano alto bass tenor baritone) you've also heard right french horn and euphonium do get background things all the time!. but some one has to play them, and play them good!. have you thought about playing the baritone (not the sax kind looks like small slim tuba)!.

PS you never mentioned trombone!?

Alto Sax or Euphonium!. and baritone possibly!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
