Question: How can I tell my classmate who plays clarinet to play softer (she plays too loud)!?
In band class there's this girl who's really nice to me and she sits next to me and she plays clarinet but she plays WAY too loud and doesn't sound like she's in tune!. I want her to play softer or lower so I can hear my oboe along with the other 72+ people in my band class!. There's like 20+ clarinet players and I'm the only oboe player so I want to hear mine blend in but I can't cause her clarinet is too loud!.
What's a nice way to tell her to play lower!? I don't want to hurt her feelings or offend her!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well with my band experience people usually don't get mad or anything when you tell them to play softer but if you want to be on the safe side you can say you have a headache and ask her that way and maybe when the class ends you can give her a compliment like you sound great when you play like that and maybe she'll start doing that everydayWww@QuestionHome@Com

i also play the oboe, but we're on the opposite side of the clarinets!. maybe if you say something to your conductor about her, he/she can say something because you obviously can't get mad at your teacher for that!. so maybe if you ask your conductor to talk to her about it, it will help!? after all, conductors are there to help the students improve =]!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sorry this is not your job!. It is the band directors!.
The director hears the total sound, and asks for adjustment!.
Be thankful your not sitting directly in front of the trumpets!.
Ask the director for what you can do, to make sure you are heard!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Aside from straight up telling her you can say that she's not blending in with the other clairinet players!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
