Question: Could you give me some info on the bass guitar!?
im interested in picking up an instrument, my friends have suggested the bass guitar, i was wondering how many strings i should start out with, about the difference between a fretted base and one without, a good brand, potential costs, and any interesting aspects youd like to point out

An ordinary 4 string bass, tuned E A D G like the four thickest strings of a guitar is perfectly adequate to start!. There is no point buying a six string bass!. I f you have not played before a fretless is not a good idea!. Frets will help your hand learn where to finger and you will always be i n tune, which you might not be able to achieve on a fretless!.

The Fender style bass (Jazz or Precision), with its long scale neck is considered the best bass guitar for versatility, but there are loads of copies!. Some are direct copies, others are styled differently but are virtually identical!. There are also shorter scaled basses (i!.e the neck is not so long) like the Gibson style basses!.
There are also basses with active circuitry to get a louder more distorted sound!.
There are lots of good copies about now and price is usually a good indication of quality!.
Try to find a bass that you are comfortable to hold standing up for a long time!. Don't forget that bass notes are deep and when playing with a loud band you have to be able to hear what you are playing!. A good bass guitarist needs to be able to play by ear more than by reading, unless you plan to work with big bands, or in theatres where you will need to read!. Some bass players prefer their music written in the treble clef, some are happy with the bass clef!.!.
Make sure the bass you buy stays in tune! Some of the cheaper copies tend to go out of tune as you play!. There is a lot of tension on a bass string!.
The sound of the bass you choose needs to suit the style of music you play!. Buy the best bass amp you can afford! It will make all the difference!. Trace Elliott is a name worth looking for!

Good luck! Don't rush into buying one, try lots first!Www@QuestionHome@Com
