Question: Help picking an instrument!!!?
My daughter is in the 6th grade and this will be her first year of being in band!.!. she has chosen the clarinet!.!. I know NOTHING about music or instrument's!.!.

Her band instructor gave us the option of renting for 25!.00 a month then at the end of the school year she turns it in!.!. this works out to e 225!.00 a year in rent!.
Would it be better to go out and buy one!? I asked him that and he said that was fine but there are many low quality ones out there and any student that has one of the low quality ones will not be participating in any concerts or events!.

Can anyone here give me an idea of a good brand that wont break my bank!?!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

That's pretty messed up that they said your child cannot participate with a low-quality instrument! As a musician (since the 5th grade), I know that there weren't any kids that had a really nice instrument!.

If I were you, I would rent for a few months just to make sure your child enjoys her clarinet (that is the instrument I started playing as a child too)!. A lot of kids quit band after they realized they didn't like it (my brother did)!. If she likes it, then you can buy her a mid-grade one, and if she really gets good, you can sell it or trade for something eve nicer!.

When I started playing clarinet, my parents bought me a decent used one that got me all the way through high school!. I think they paid around $150 or so (this was like 15 years ago, so I'm sure prices have changed)!. Check craigslist for used ones that might only need minor repairs and a cleaning!.

Another idea is just go to a music shop and get a student model (has like 1 or two keys missing that your daughter won't need unless she turns out to be a prodigy)!. The sales people will be super-helpful, as I'm sure they deal with this sort of situation all the time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would recommend this one:

http://www!.musiciansfriend!.com/product/K!.!.!.

It is decent quality, cheap, and great for beginners!. It usually makes sense to buy a beginner a beginning (cheap) instrument!. If she does good and wants to progress, buy a nicer one in the future!.

However if that one doesn't suit you, there is a more full list here:

ask what brand the school use! that way you can compare the price, as you say, buyings gunna be cheaper though! If you have the same clarinet as the school you cant go wrong!.Make sure youre daughters definately going to stick with it though- maybe rent for a month see how she likes itWww@QuestionHome@Com

I would suggest renting to begin with to make sure she really does like the clarinet, and if she is sure she wants to continue, then look at buying one!. My sister got a Yamaha student model for her first after renting for a year!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is just my opinion but i like bundys they're a little more expensive to buy but they're not cheap eitherWww@QuestionHome@Com
