Should i play the bassoon?

Question: Should i play the bassoon!?

I'm in 6th grade going into my school's band!. I want to play bassoon put I'm afraid it might be to hard or ill have to practice to much to catch up with the other kids, what should i do!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Many middle school bands do not have a bassoonist, and teachers do not encourage beginning students to play that instrument, because the instrument is so large that it is often very difficult for the student's especially younger people's fingers to stretch and cover the holes!.

But I think that if you are truly interested in the learning the instrument, go for it! Talk to your band teacher about it, and see what he/she says!. also, no matter what instrument you pick, it's going to be difficult learning! But don't let that get you down! Just keep it at and I can assure you that you'll love it!.

And if your teacher agrees to let you play the bassoon, feel free to express your concerns with not being able to catch up with him/her!. Maybe you can come after on certain days and receive additional help from the teacher or another student, you never know :)

Lastly, if your teacher doesn't feel comfortable teaching you the instrument, try Clarinet or Oboe, or maybe even Bass Clarinet! If you learn one of those it'll be a lot easier to learn Bassoon later on!.

Go for it! Being part of the band is something that you will always remember and the sooner you start, the better you will be!. Yes, you will need to practice - but everyone needs to!. Don't worry about catching up with the other kids and just learn at a pace that is comfortable for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
