Question: What about learning double bass!?
I am thinking about learning double bass!. I already play electric bass pretty well, and I read Bass Player magazine here and there, and there are many articles on stand up bass players, so I assume the two are connected some way!. I was wondering what differences and similarities there are, and how difficult it would be to learn with knowledge on electric bass!. Details are appreciated, and I would love any tips from any musicians that play both or tried to play both!. (I just don't want a lot of people saying stuff, when they don't know anything about it!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

The string configuration of an electric bass (4 string) and a double bass are the same!. The only differences are the vertical vs!. horizontal playing, as well as frets vs!. fret-less!. The finger reach is bigger in a double bass and you will have to learn a few alternative fingerings for reach purposes!. The only other aspect differences are how you pluck (pizzicato) and learning to bow (arco)!. I start many of my jazz band bass players in my string orchestra class and then convert them to the new style of music!.!.!.Jazz!

Good luck and have fun with the double bass! :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

The finger board on a double bass has no frets!. For a beginner you may want to space out 3 thin pieces of masking tape across the board to make frets!. These should be in the beginners are where F sharp and such are found!. Start off small!. You play a double bass right handed regardless!. I am a lefty and that was how I was taught!. I havent played in years though!. Half steps and whole steps are involved in a double bass as I am sure in bass guitar!. Plucking is called Pizzicato!. When you hear a rockabilly band play the style of playing is called "walking" the bass!. You will need a good bow and rosin!. also, one of those hockey puck shaped floor to keep the bass from sliding around thingies!.!.!.!.!.!.!.which should be its proper name!.!.!. is a good idea!. YOu put the peg into the hockey puck shaped floor to keep the bass from sliding around on thingy!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
