Question: Is it possible to have a career as a secular organist!?
I'm 16 and think that I'd like to either be a harpsichordist, or an organist!. I really like organs and organ music, but here's the catch: I'm not religious!. I have an uncle who's the music director at a church who could set me up with some lessons, but could I go anywhere with that!? I have no problems with religion but I wouldn't really be comfortable with a church job!.!.!.I'd either be surrounded by people who think I'm going to hell, or I'd have to lie about that, and I don't want to have to make that choice!.

What secular opportunities are available!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not really!. There are still a few movie houses with organs, and some other places that have organs besides churches, but they are so few and far between that you would have to travel everywhere to find work, and you wouldn't get paid very well!.

Honestly, if you're good and enjoy playing the organ, most people at the church won't care if you're religious or not!. Methodists have all kinds of musicians and singers who aren't members, but are hired to play for worship services!. Having good music is really important to a lot of churches!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you could always like!. make music for like tv shows or movies!. but your best bet is to start learning like synths like a midi keyboard with diff types of sounds in it!. including organ stuff!. I think thats your best bet!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
