It depends on what you want to play!. I'd advise an Epiphone if you're into hard rock or classic rock!. They're virtually identicle to their Gibson counterparts!. I own two, and they're incredibly well-built instruments, especially when you consider that they start as low as $150!. If you prefer metal, then you might consider a cheap Ibanez!. They start in the same price range and usually feature decent metal pickups and some sort of Floyd Rose tremolo!. If you want a Strat, then you're in luck, because Fender has licensed their products to Squire, which are also not terrible for their price range!.

If you can, try to get a guitar-scavy preson to go with you to where ever you're buying from!. The instrument should feel solid, and you should be able to move your hand up and down the fretboard effortlessly (in other words, no tripping over frets, getting stuck on the wood, etc!.) Make sure the strings are close enough to the body itself that your hand doesn't being to hurt after you play it (for this reason, I'd advise against buying a Les Paul from Epiphone!. They're great instuments, but not the best beginner guitars)!.

And of course, don't be afraid to ask someone at your local Gutiar Center/where ever you're going!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

a 6 string the strings a noted from low to high E A D G B E and a 12 string is the same but the string next to it is its octave

you may not want to start of with a 12 string it is far more complicated to begin with!.

also a note i don't think anyone had said this but DON'T get an ovation!.!.!.a music center owner told me that they were junk!.!.!.and also while i was there out of the blue the bridge flew off one just to prove his point!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would recommend the Squier Tele Custom II Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups Black Maple Neck!.

It's cheap and really good!. It's not just your standard guitar!. You can get a good deal at http://www!.cheapguitars!.co!.nr/fender!.htm!.!.!.

When I bought this guitar I was really happy because they through in a couple of leads for me and it came really quickWww@QuestionHome@Com

For a beginner I would definely tell you to stay in the 1-300 dollar range!. or you could try craigslist and find one of martins cheaper brands!.

12strings have more vibrance to it, more of a chime if you will!. 6stringer is a great place to start out with and its easier to learn on!. after you master the 6 string id try for the 12 string!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Epiphone Les Paul is a great beginner guitar!. No reason why it wouldn't be other than it's slightly pricy for a beginner!. I don't know what that guy is talking about!. I was gonna just plain recommend it to you until he said not to get one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would learn on a 6 string (twelve string just has double the octaves)!. I reccomend a cheap Alvarez, Epiphone, or Takamine!. Check them out on these sites, and then you can click on your price range, hope this helps, and rock on!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
