Question: I need a good flute!.!.!.!?
I have a used one that costed $100 (I used it for my couple years in school to learn on!.!.!. now it's broken and sounds horrible)

and a newer one (I got as a gift from my aunt), but it's some random brand, and is REALLY hard to play, since the F note only comes out if you have the head piece adjusted JUST right, and blow hard enough (it doesn't sound too great either)!.!.!.

I'm in 10th grade now and need a new flute, one that actually sounds pretty good, and works!. I'm not planning on going anywhere with it after high school, but I need one that will last 3 more years, and probably college marching band!. I don't really wan't to spend a thousand dollars on a flute I won't use much later in life, so I need something reletively cheap in terms of flutes!. also I'm pretty good at playing it ( I can get 1st and 2nd chair using my crappy flutes!)!.!.!. but my cheap flutes are getting in my way of improving!.!.!.

Any words of wisdom on brands, open or closed key, cost, new/used, etc!.!.!.!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

HI there,

Reading your question, I see that since you are not wanting to play flute in college or later, I suggest you get a really nice student model!.
I do believe that you would love the Yamaha 281 or the Pearl 505 student model, both open holed!.

To be honest with you, even the student model instruments are not cheap!. Yamaha sells new for $800 and the Pearl sells for $659 with a B foot joint and pointed arms, like the professional models (hard to believe)!.

The best deal for your money is the Pearl but both instruments would last you for the three years!.

If you want to save even more money, you might look at used flutes that are in excellent condition!. Craigslist!.org in your area is one classified site but ebay will have the most to choose from in used flutes but when buying anything used, you must be cautious and ask questions as well as check the sellers' feedbacks!. From either of these sites I feel you could buy a nice used flute for under $500!.00!.

Just do not go the no-name brand no matter what the price!. These are cheap imports from 3rd world countries that are imported here with no way to repair them and no parts to repair them with!. You will be wasting your money and your time!.

So, I hope I have been able to give you something to consider and that you will get your replacement flute soon!.

Thank you for reading!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am a professional flutist certified teacher, and competition judge in NY since 1971!. You can search for MY Best Answers (and previous answers - sometimes the idiot answer wins because it is funny, but not RIGHT) of just this topic - or you can Google for Jen Cluff ( not me!) who has EXCELLENT articles on just what you need!. This will save me writing it all out AGAIN!! Best of luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

well honestly, the best flute to get is Gemeinhardt, Yamaha or Jean Baptist!. if you are going to do marching band, i would advise you to a closed student flute!.

I've had it for 7 and a half years and have never had any problems with it!. I used it in marching band all four years of highschool and 3 more in college so it must be pretty durable! Is easy to play and not too expensive either!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I play the flute as well the thing is mine is a little cheap to but the thing is watch out for sales at musiciansfriends!.com! That helped me! I hope I helped you!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can get some really good flutes cheap if you buy second-hand!. For a good flute, buying your flute first-hand is going to cost you up to £700 (if you're american then i don't know what it is in dollars, its just a lot of money)!. My flute is a jupiter flute and its great, it was cheap, too!. Jupiter make great flutes, i would definitely recommend them!. A good, second-hand jupiter flute will cost you 2-300 pounds (again, not sure in dollars) which is relatively cheap in flute terms!.
Good luck finding the right flute :)Www@QuestionHome@Com
