Question: Troubleshooting playing guitar!
When ever I go to switch frets or strings and lift up my fingers, it makes a noise on the string!. I've practiced a lot trying to prevent this, but it keeps happening! Does anyone have any idea what causes this and how I can stop it!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

The noise is definitely your fingers squeaking along the strings, usually the brass or steel wound E A and D strings!. And the other person is right, there is really no way to stop it, other than completely lifting your fingers off the strings as you move!.Which is a little tough to do!. If you ever see "Stranger Than Fiction" with Will Farrell, there is a part in the soundtrack near the end of the movie where the acoustic guitar recording had a VERY loud squeaking all throughout the song, so it's not just you!.

One thing you could try is going to your local guitar store and buy a can of "FINGER EASE"!. It is a silicone based spray that acts kind of like WD-40 , but won't hurt your wood or strings!. DO NOT USE WD-40!
The spray lubricates the strings so your fingers may not make as much noise as you slide up and down!. It also increases the lifetime of your strings by keeping off moisture so your strings don't rust!.
I've been playing guitar for 40 yrs and have played professionally, and that's probably the only thing I can think of that will help!.

It is the sound of your fingers scratching the string!. There really is no way to prevent it besides getting different strings that aren't as rough!. If the strings are the same ones that came with the guitar, then depending on the guitar company the default strings probably aren't that good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You must have a cheap guitar!. It is a ground problem If it did not do it before and it just started, check, or have checked, the pick-up grounds!. Higer end guitars have shielding in the pick up cavities to prevent thatWww@QuestionHome@Com
