hey can someone help me i know all my basics i just dont no how far to strum on the gutar or what the numbers or letters mean i just ont no which tab to do when i look at the tabs it looks like this

If you provide a link you'll get better answers considering we don't know what strings this tab is taking place on!.

--------- (indicate the strings of the guitar)

The letters represent the string names of the guitar!. If you lay your guitar in your lap and look at the neck, each line goes with a string starting from top-bottom!.

e|--------- (1st string)
B|--------- (2nd string)
G|--------- (3rd string)
D|--------- (4th string)
A|--------- (5th string)
E|--------- (6th string)

Numbers indicate what FRET you place a finger on!. What line the number is on also indicates what string gets played!.

e|-----1---- (1st string, 1st fret)

Note: Tab doesn't tell you which fingers to use (usually)!. But just remember this, in a four fret area (1, 2, 3, 4), one finger is assigned to each fret (1st fret=index, 2nd fret=middle, etc)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The numbers equal the fret you play, that's easy enough!. You only show 2 strings, so I'm not sure which 2 they are!. When you're looking at the tab for all 6 strings, the bottom row of numbers is the lowest string (tone wise, the thickest string), so what you see on paper and how you look at the guitar is inverted!. The "x3" means to repeat it three times, but the original must look different because the "x3" will come at the end of an entire phrase as compared to just one string!. The dashes are used just to space out the numbers to line up to represent the rhythm (although you have to listen to the song to get a real feel of the rhythm)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Picture six strings and the numbers represent the strings!. The first number is the top or (low toned) string, and you work your way down!. Make absolutely sure your tuned up properly, where EADGBE is 0-0-0-0-0-0 and follow the neck down!. I'm assuming 3x means 3 times!. The second line is two or more chords mashed together cut the numbers in half after the double threes ( or six numbers) and make two chords!.
