Nifty nikkixx,
Are you kidding me!? 16 and too old to learn the ukulele!? That's a good one! Ha, Ha!
With this new resurgeance of the ukulele over the past few years my friend and I've been giving ukulele lessons through the parks and rec!. dept in our local town!. In the last three years we do a one hr!. class one night a week for six weeks and we've taught way over a 100 people to play!. 9 to 93 yrs!. of age!. (Not counting my 5 yr!. old grandson that plays Row, Row, Row Your Boat, and Three Blind Mice!.) Some of them bo't the ukulele while they were in Hawaii with the intention of learning and sat it on the shelf for 20 yrs!. or so, some inherited it from their Dad or Grand-dad, some used to play, some played a guitar but are seniors now (that's like 60+ yrs!.) and can't chord six strings, and other stories, etc!. We've taught numerous people in their 70's and 80's, and one 93 yr!. old lady that played a guitar when she was younger but hadn't touched one for 50 yrs!. But our greatest accomplishment!? A 63 yr!. old blind woman (yes, totally blind) with no musical experience at all!. Not even singing in a choir!. She has her Dad's ukulele after he passed away and remembers the times they had when he played and sang with the family!. You see, every year her family has a family reunion campout where many of them bring guitars and sit around the fire of evening for a family sing along!. She wanted to learn "Just enough" she said so she could surprise them and join in!. We did it with a tape recorder and explained every step!. She plays Ol' Suzanna, Clementine, This Land is Your Land, and numerous other camp songs!.!.!.!.in only six weeks!.!.!.!.and she's blind! She cried when she told me what it meant to her to be able to join in with them!. I cried too!
So!? Too old!? Pshah, give me a break!
Do it man! You'll never regret it!
I started playing 4 yrs!. ago and I'll be 56 in a couple days!. I had very, very little guitar experience!. If there's anything I can do to help!.!.!.ask!
Sorry this is long!.!.!.but really, I want you to get the picture!
GO FOR IT!
