Question: Am i too old to learn how to play the flute!?
I am 14 and going to be a freshman in high school!. I started playing the flute when I was in fourth grade, and continued through fifth, however stopped because my teacher couldn't teach on the same day!.!.!.well i guess it doesn't really matter how, but i stopped playing!. ^^; About a year ago i started piano, and it seems like I haven't gotten anywhere and I'm not really enjoying it, so i was thinking of going back to the flute!. Now I'm worried though, because a year ago my piano teacher said I was starting a bit late!.!.!.and now another year has past!. Is it too late!?!? Will it be too difficult to learn now!?!? I'm hoping that my past experience may help, but still worried that I may have forgotten!. please tell me if it's too late for me! T_TWww@QuestionHome@Com

HI there,

You are really asking a very mature question!.!.!.!. and I think it is one that many people ask because they really have a desire to do something, but not sure if they can be successful past a certain age!.

You are not to old!.!.!. in fact, you are just the right age!. I will explain why!. When children start at a very young age to play an instrument!.!.!. it is not really because they have a deep desire to play, it is because their parents want them to!. They may struggle on, not really enjoying it and because of that, they don't practice!.!.!.thus don't get any better and resulting in them quitting!. Starting them that young does not give them the chance or choice to develop an interest for themselves!.

You!.!.!. on the other hand!.!.!. are older and are developing an interest and mind of your own!. You are the one that wants to play the flute!. Not your parents!. This is so important to your success of learning and studying!.!.!.!.!. practicing every day and improving!. So to answer your question again!.!.!.!. you are NOT too old!. You are just the right age for YOU!. You are making this decision, choosing to commit your time and effort into playing flute!. Like I said at first!.!.!. this is a very mature decision you are wanting to make!.

Good for you!!! An age does not keep anyone from doing things!.!.!. just remember that!. :))

PS!.!.!.!. for your next question!.!.!. ask what type of materials you need to get started playing flute again!. :))Www@QuestionHome@Com

You go, girl! It's never too late, and your piano experience, although limited, will help!.

Anything you have forgotten will come back quickly, as your ability to learn is quickened as you get older!.

I recommend having a private teacher, or at the very least a mentor who can give you tips!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i was in the same situation!. but played the violin and quit!. i want to go back but my school is too small and don't teach string instruments!. but no your never too old!. and plus it will be easier now that you have at least a sense of how to read notes!. i say you should go for it! oh yeah ps- i play the flute :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Are you still breathing!? You're not too old!.
From my perspective you're barely beyond being taught how to shampoo your hair!

The real questions are:

How bad to you want it!? (Maybe if you knew why you wanted to take it up, it would answer that for you!.)

Are you willing to be disciplined enough to follow through!?

Everything else is bunk!.!.!.if you want it persue it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is never to late to start playing an instrument, Since you have already played for two years, you will be able to pick it right back up!. Your piano teacher is a moron, it is never to late!. I wish you the best of luck, and hope you start playing the flute again!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it's never too late to learn anything!. But, do it if you enjoy it!. There's no point pushing yourself to do something you get nothing out of!. You should love what sound you can make after long practising, and the satisfaction is your reward!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

As long as you have a pasion for it and enjoy playing it, you are never too old to learn an instrument and become good at it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
