Question: Which chord tones are ok to double in music theory!?
I realize the root is always the best to double!. But if you're forced to do otherwise, is it better to double the 3rd or 5th of a chord next!? I realize that in a V chord, the third is the leading tone, meaning you should not double it, but what if it's not the leading tone, would you double the 5th or 3rd!? Why!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The fourth and fifth of the key, not the chord, are the best for doubling, according to my theory book!. That is, if the chord includes one of them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well my favorite chord, despite all the music theory i've taught and learned, is the so called power chord of a guitar!. It is a simple Root note, fifth, and octave!. fifths and octaves are the most powerful notes and they always fit together perfectly!. the third is also good, but it is not a perfect interval!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

However they are called, concentrate on harmony in your chord notes!. Doubling the thirds and fifths work well, but the root notes can always be doubled--even tripled--for good effect!.

Think of the 12-string guitar and all the duplicate tones!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i double the five with a lower five, just cause it makes it sound heavierWww@QuestionHome@Com
