It may be that the instrument itself is the problem!. I assume you're taking lessons - what does your instructor say!? Can your instructor get better sound out of it than you do!? If so, he or she can tell you what techniques to use to obtain better tone!.

When I bought a new flute, I was amazed at how much more beautiful it was!. They were made of the same material, but one was just far superior in quality!. Same things when my sister (a professional cellist) bought a new instrument!. It was expensive, but the sound was glorious!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I read an article recently about studies done on the old violins built by the original masters that sell for millions of dollars now!. Apparently the wood contains a certain kind of mold that enhances desirable tonal properties!.

The overall quality of the wood makes a difference too!. Obviously an instrument built with greater attention to those kinds of details will be more expensive, but if you're really serious it might be something to consider!.

Otherwise, I can only pass along the advice usually given to guitarists: "It's all in the fingers!."Www@QuestionHome@Com
