It's simple the E is the first string down(thickest)
The A string is the 2nd one down
The D string the 3rd one down
The G String 4th one down
The B string 5th one down
And the e string is the thinnest one (last one down)!.
The numbers stand for the fret number!. Say it says E3
You put your finger on On the first string, place it on the 3rd fret or square (should be the first dot on the neck) When it says an x means you palm mute it!. You can just lay your fingers on all the strings but DO NOT press down on them!. Just touch them and strum!. It should make a slap-backky sound (weird sound)!.So there you have it try to play this song from The White Stripes called Seven Nation Army
