Question: Will playing guitar effect my ability to play piano!?
Well, I was considering learning guitar, but my piano teacher told me that when guitarists play their fingers develop a tough skin and this may effect my ability to control pressure on my fingers as well as without playing guitar!.

Is this true!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Nonsense!.!.!. I have been playing both piano/keyboard and guitar for over 50 years!.!. if you have the proper technique, then having callouses on the finger tips of your left hand won't make any difference unless you want to make it a big deal!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It shouldn't make TOO much of a difference - but I played cello for four years and eventually quit because I got these nasty calluses all over my fingers and it was actually making it a bit harder to play piano!. Piano will definitely help you play guitar (notes and chords and stuff) but guitar won't necessarily help you with your piano ability - personally I would advise against it!. But then again, if you want to learn, go for it =)Www@QuestionHome@Com

it should not effect your piano playing ability the though skin you get from the guitar or callus is developed after a while!. But if you are very worried you can get lighter strings on your guitar so they effect your fingers less!. But i think your piano teacher just doesn't want you to fall in love with the guitar and stop playing pianoWww@QuestionHome@Com

I mean it really depends!. it will effect the pressure senses just a bit, but once you get the hang of playing with the caluses on your fingers you might be to control it better!. but go ahead and learn guitar, it's good to have more than one instrument in the old arsenal!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, your teacher's right about the "tough skin": that's a callus that guitarists get on their fretting fingers to stop them from hurting!. Having calluses on one hand shouldn't make a horrible difference in your piano playing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well my friend who can play the guitar really well tried out my sisters piano and could play it really well and yeah your fingers get hard ive only been playing for a few days now and they hurt like hell but my friend said they would get harder!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

After playing guitar for a while, your hands do get pretty blisstered, and then they form a hard callus!. i don't think it would affect your piano skills though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i've played piano for years (grd5!) and now i'm also learning bass!.!.!. it's hard, and different!.!.!. but knowing the piano deffinately helpsWww@QuestionHome@Com

no i dont think so!. but i would listen to your piano teacher cus he/she probably knows what there talking about!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I play both the piano and guitar, and I can still play the piano just fine!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well you would have to practice each instrument equally EVERY DAYWww@QuestionHome@Com
